GRID'2012 offers wealth of Grid and Cloud knowledge, including special IDGF Desktop Grid tutorial and session

Top Russian Grid and distributed computing conference GRID'2012 just finished. GRID'2012 took place in Dubna, a small town near Moscow, from 16-07-2012 to 20-07-2012. The event gathered 245 participants from Russia and abroad. During the conference various topics were discussed ranging from traditional Grids and Clouds to Desktop Grids and combined infrastructures. The Russian Chapter of IDGF organized a Desktop Grid tutorial and session. Eleven talks were given during the DG session and four talks during the tutorial. The DG session was opened by Dr. Gabor Terstyanszky with a key-note talk "Combining Desktop and Service Grids to Support e-Scientists to Run Simulations".

Among other very interesting talks two should be mentioned specifically: "BOINC based Data Mining" by E. Ivashko that described a new data-mining application and "Organizing and Administering of Volunteer Distributed Computing Project SAT@HOME" by O. Zaikin that presented the most successful Russian BOINC project.

Guests from Ukraine (A. Gatsenko and A. Baskova) discussed BOINC applications in material science. In general the session was very interesting and attracted serious attention of the conference participants. During the round table after the DG session key teams working in this field agreed to enhance the support of the Russian Chapter of IDGF as the main vehicle for cooperation and joint activity.
